U.S. opening Canada land border in November for vaccinated visitors

Breaking news: Fully vaccinated visitors from Canada and Mexico will be able to travel to the U.S. by land and sea starting in November. This will end an 18-month long historic border closure put in place to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

Important things to consider while planning to travel into the U.S.:

  • Fully vaccinated travellers from Canada and Mexico will be able to enter the country from land and sea for non-essential purposes.
  • Unvaccinated visitors will be barred from entering the United States at land borders.
  • In early January 2022, the United States will require essential visitors, like truck drivers or healthcare workers, to be vaccinated to cross land borders.
  • Travellers by land or sea will need to be vaccinated but will not necessarily need to show proof of vaccination unless referred to secondary inspection.

It is unclear at the moment whether the United States will accept vaccines from visitors who received doses of two different COVID-19 vaccines.
